Hot Wheels Top Speed, touted as the “Most Advanced Vehicles in Hot Wheels History”. Each package came with two Top Speed vehicles, a catapult launcher and an accelerator tube. The cars were mostly all plastic except for axles and the metal launching hook. The launching hook dropped down to fit into launching track; you would pull the car backwards on the track until it clicked, and once set, you would press the release button and launch the car through the tube. A neat feature on the cars was the performance bar, if you slid the bar toward the rear, the chassis would twist so the car would “handle” better through loops, curves and pipes. In the forward position the chassis would stiffen for drag racing action. The tube had an attachment on the end to add a track piece or it could be flipped up to made what was called a “Jammer Jump”. The back of each package had two cut-out performance spec cards for each model. If you have a package, take the time to read them for some entertaining stats.

There were eight different models that sold for two years in 1995-96. In the second year two new models were issued along with the previous models and featured a ‘Solar Flare’ finish. Some of these models have metallic-colored tampo, color chrome interiors, brighter colors and clear tires. These models came in an array of different colors and wheels styles. All cars were made in Malaysia and had the Hot Wheels logo on the base. Only two different wheels were used on these cars, Progressive Oval wheels (pow) or Hot Hubs wheels (hh).
